For a few years now, I have been collecting vintage mens designer fragrances specifically from the 1970s to the mid 90s. Today I came into possession by a happy coincidence, a bottle of Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentrée that may have been one of the first bottles ever manufactured. The box has the nice understated colour and minimal design that one associates with Chanel.
Chanel Pour Monsiuer Concentrée first came onto the USA market in November 1988. I was given this by a friend of a woman who was a beauty assistant at Debenhams on Oxford Street London in the late 1980s. In the UK, it did not appear until 1991. I only managed to glean that information from fashion magazines published during the late 1980s.
Incredibly, it has never been used. It's not cellophane sealed but when I opened it, there wasn't even a fingerprint on the glass or chrome finish. That's pretty good for a vintage of this age. It smells rich in a way I've never experienced before. Truly masterful. Modern yet classic. There is no bar code - no Green dot symbol. The batch code is 6707 - which would place manufacture at July 1988. I also noticed there is no mention of the later 'Egoiste' in the accompanying pamphlet inside the box. Egoiste did not arrive until 1990, at least in England.
There are a couple of pictures below, but if you would like the full complete set they are here.
